Review of Asus Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5 Graphics Card

Talking about power consumption, AMD is now promising to max consumption shall not exceed 190W at full load and standby card may not exceed 27W. If this is true it would be a great improvement over previous generation cards.

ASUS EAH5850 SPECIFICATIONS
OK, enough rambling about all the new technologies and the promise of the new AMD series, here are the facts on the Asus HD 5850:

Asus has not added any physical alternations to this card, it is basically Asus' version of a generic AMD 5850th But Asus has a number of software tools that help us overclockers to a maximum potential of this card, "Gamer OSD" and "Smart Doctor. "This last requirement will be most useful as it allows us to play with the core voltage.

ASUS EAH5850, First Impressions
The card comes in a nice looking cardboard box with loads of aggressive printing on it. As is common with graphics cards, ASUS is pushing a lot on overclocking tools. Also, the bundle (EAH5850/2DIS/1GD5) includes 2 games DIRT. When I opened the box, I almost got a little feeling of apples for the moment when I saw a black cover with the Asus logo in gold. Under the hood I found two kutije.Veći box graphics card, included the standard anti-static plastic bag and secure with white foam plastic material. Another box accessories.

Except for Dirt 2 games (digital download, no DVD), I was not overly impressed with the accessories, a CD with drivers and applications, printed manual, adapter (2 Molex to 1 x 6 pin PCIe) DVI-VGA adapter and CrossFireX bridge.

ASUS EAH5850 detail
My first impression was that it really looks powerful with its red and black finish slojem.Kartica faithfully follows the AMD reference card in all respects. This is a great card, length 240 mm, and occupies two slots. The fan is 70mm, and I hope that it will not bee too loud, but looking at a fairly small exhaust air from the back of the card, I do not feel overly positive.

front of the card has two 6 pin PCIe connectors, which theoretically will provide 150W to the card. Although I wanted to get off the fridge and a closer look at the PCB I decided to let that intention, because I had to give in a multitude of screws and it was impossible to remove without the housing and clean the refrigerator itself, which feels a little too rizično.Velika Adeus thing about the new card is their connection. They include two DVI-I, HDMI and DisplayPort. With ATI Eyefinity technology, it is possible to use 3 monitors at the same time with this card, not bad.

My test system
OK, so here comes a list of hardware components I used for this test:

And here's a screenshot of my configuration:
Major changes in my test setup that I have included benchmark software "Unigine Heaven" and removed Lightsmark 2008.Glavni reason for this is that allows me to compare the difference in performance between DirectX 10 and DirectX 11

BENCHMARKING RESULTS
I will compare these results to the result I got in the previous graphics card reviews from my test system has been updated. I was very interested in what the performance comparison between DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 will produce. As you can see from the graphs above results were the opposite of what I expected, the performance is actually lower than with DirectX 11 to DirectX 10

GAMING TESTS AND
It is interesting to note that the performance remains high even when adding a filter. This is something that AMD has corrected his previous series that really suffer when filters were added. Otherwise, as here, the performance is very good, but I would not have any direct comparisons with previous reviews

.

GAMING TESTS II
A second series of games includes all the demanding games as usual. This test clearly shows that the EAH5850 has a lot of power under the hood and it was only two games where the FPS rate does not always hold above 30 fps with most possible settings.

Overclocking, Cooling and Consumption
On the packaging, Asus said, "Voltage tweaking", which is done with a physician Asus Smart software also allows us to change the frequency and the core and memory.
This is a dream to work with Asus' card overclocking tool and it's impressive how far this card can be had.
The cooling system on the card is very effective. The fan is loud at full strength, but generally did not bother me too much.
I measured the total energy consumption in my system is idle and full load, here are the results:
It is clear that the difference is huge, and it should be of AMD's PowerPlay technology dramatically reduce power consumption in 2D.

Overclocking RESULTS
OK, so here are the results of overclocking tests:
The increase in 3D Mark Vantage is truly impressive, and this is confirmed by an increase of 6 fps in Far Cry 2 and there is increasing with filters enabled, as well.

Conclusions
First I must commend AMD for the work they have done with this card. It is energy efficient and high performers, very impressive. Asus has taken Adeus reference design, adding more value to their smart technologies and software alata.Glavna advantage of the Asus card is of course its overclocking abilities are nothing short of fantastic. ASUS EAH5850 is already on sale at a price that fluctuates between $ 270 and $ 300, which is very competitive with respect to its performance, overclocking capabilities and the fact that it involves DiRT 2
